DANCE AND EYE

DANCE AND EYE brings together Oguri and five photographers from diverse backgrounds and experience, to investigate a particular set of questions that arise when the disciplines of dance and photography work together: Where does the dance take place? In the body of the dancer or in the eye of the observer? If in both body and eye, then what role does the eye have in forming the dance? Is the eye part of the dance?

Photographers Andrew Macpherson, Richard Nielsen, Atiba Jefferson, Ricardo Vidana, and Tali Maranges bring their individual techniques, technologies, and unique perspectives to capture and create the dance with Oguri in one-on-one sessions. The bare walls and floor of ARCANE Space become yet another participant, creating a frame for the dance, which combined with the frame of the camera lens, provides tension with and against its own rendering the chase, the capture, the escape.
